Cytomel tablets for thryoid replacement |
I will take the cytomel until the pathology report comes back (in about 7days). If the pathology is clear I will then start Synthroid. If I need RAI I will need to be hypothyroid. Since Cytomel is shorter acting than Synthroid it can be stopped to induce a hypothyroid state sooner.
Honestly, this is first time I heared that Cytomel can be used that way; many doctors are hesitant of prescribing Cytomel as its overdose effects are quite dangerous (similar to Regular insulin).
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to get benign pathology
Thanks Dr. J.
ReplyDeleteI have read of Cytomel being used this way in quite a few instances, however, I have not been able to locate any scientific articles to support or refute this. I have to admit that I am not as familiar with Cytomel (liothyronine sodium) as I am with Synthroid (levothyroxine). Are you a physician? I have been watching for side effects but have not noted any as of yet.
No, I am not physician, but I participated in engineering projects related to the improvement of the thyroid ultrasound imaging equipment and learned a bit about thyroid disorders.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty exciting! Did you learn anything really interesting?
ReplyDeleteI have learned a lot!
ReplyDeleteIn the past I thought that all thyroid problems were related to the iodine deficiency:)
